One hears more and more of the so-called LED filament lamps or retrofit lamps. In our online shop you will also find a separate category for LED filament / retro. These special lamps are becoming increasingly popular these days. But what are LED filaments and what makes them so special?
What are LED filaments?
For 150 years, Thomas Adison's light bulb was the figurehead of artificial lighting. LED technology is now the new standard. With its clearly predominant advantages, it has prevailed over conventional technology in the long term. They come in many different shapes and sizes. The structure of the filament lamps is a special variant of the LED lamps. Unlike the usual LED lamps, no individual light-emitting diodes are installed here. Instead, there are one or more filaments inside the glass bulb. The light-emitting diodes are attached closely to one another on these threads. The thread looks like the wire of a conventional light bulb. Furthermore, these lamps often have a classic bulb shape, which also gives them the impression of conventional light bulbs. A perfect combination of retro look and modern lighting technology. LED filament lamps have some significant advantages.
